23. April 2010 - Awarded: Alufoil Trophy 2010 for Aluminium Template
In April the European Aluminium Foil Association awarded the Alufoil Trophy 2010 to the Aluminium Template for trimming the Chondro-Gide® collagen matrix. The template impressed the independent jury in the Technical Innovation category.
The aluminium template for trimming the Chondro-Gide® collagen matrix won the Alufoil Trophy 2010 in the Technical Innovation category. “This innovative idea should be a boon in surgical techniques,” commented the jury chairman Terry Robins. The European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA) awards the Alufoil Trophy annually. Geistlich Surgery developed the template in collaboration with the packaging specialists Amcor Flexibles.
Accurate impression of damaged cartilage Geistlich Surgery now includes the aluminium template in the Chondro-Gide® delivery package. Surgeons use the collagen matrix to treat cartilage damage. Geistlich Surgery developed the innovative aluminium template at the request of surgeons. It enables them to take an accurate impression of damaged cartilage during surgery. The impression serves as a pattern for cutting Chondro-Gide® to fit so that it perfectly covers the cartilage defect.
Pioneering achievement: sole supplier worldwide With the aluminium template for Chondro-Gide®, Geistlich Surgery has once again done pioneering work: for the first time in history, a manufacturer has developed an aluminium foil for use in open-body operations. Geistlich Surgery is the first and, as yet, the only supplier of this kind of aluminium template. The material had to meet high demands in terms of handling and usage in the sterile operating environment. "Patients' safety has always been paramount during product development," explains Adrian Schnyder, Geistlich Surgery Project Manager.
Leader with focus on regeneration Chondro-Gide®, the leading matrix made of natural collagen, is used by surgeons in various techniques to treat cartilage damage.
